I picked up a $500 box of halves from my bank today. Even though I wanted to open it and check for Enders I did not open the box until I got home. What a bummer when I realized that the entire box was nothing but 2018 DBU NIFC coin. I also got another box a couple weeks ago that was 50% 2018 D NIFC coin. Has anyone else had a similar experience lately? No way people are dumping their NIFC coins they just bought. I am out of Long Beach, CA

I don’t CRH in the US, but I’d imagine the Fed is trying to offload unsold coins.

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

Did you actually open all of the rolls or just "eyeball" the end coins?

FWIW, I remember when I ordered the 2001 $100 Mixed P&D bags from the Mint and I found this...

There were only 100 coins of each mintmark in that bag, and if I had a $500 box that contained nothing but the same date/mintmark (regardless of the year) I would certainly look through them, zealously, with the hope of finding a Mint error or die progression.

A little while back someone got a full box of 2018 D half dollars as well. I'm starting to think they may actually be making the half dollars for circulation again and no one mentioned it. For one thing since 2002 the half dollar mintages were pretty low, 3 to 6 million coins. But the 2018 mintage jumped to something like 10.9 million. Why? They didn't need that many for mint sets or bag and roll sets. If they made that many more were they quietly releasing some for circulation as well?

I got a box and it had exactly 30 2018 d's. I kept them because of they're worth 2 bucks each. hey, and if you're in long beach, you should go to the long beach coin expo! It's awesome.

While they are low mintage, maybe you can sell a few at $2 each to a collector,
but i doubt if a dealer would pay more than .55 cents for them.

The question still is are they NIFC or not? As far as I know there has never been any official statement that they were made for circulation, but the mintage is way too high for a NIFC coinage.
