Was looking for some feedback on this 20ish (O-107???). Notice what appear to be "Clash Marks" by Liberties Ear as well as the defect in the N's angle. I know the pictures aren't that great, but what are your thoughts on it if any? Please let fly, LOL... Take Care and Thanks For Looking Ben
Nice coin Bone, not sure what you are really looking for, lol, but it does look like a nice coin. Is it pink like that in hand? I grade it a nice F (could be wrong, just guess), and is that a "cud" above the "A" in States on the reverse, or a rim ding? Nice coin, either way! :thumb: Phoenix
I like it. I will go with F, also. It looks like it has the stuff to make VF, but the lack of detail in the eagle makes me bump it down a little. Nice coin
I don't know about the actual color Phoenix, but it would be neat. Just purchaased it on the internet, should be here next week or so. These are the only pics available and I purchased it because of the areas mentioned. Take Care Ben
Ben: Since the Rev G is only used with O-107, it looks good! R-2. And another step for the BCBH collection! Interesting side note, that this reverse was used to strike three platinum pattern pieces.
Thanks Frank, Spider, and Phoenix for the "Look-See", help, and interesting aditional info. Much appreciated... Ben
I think it's more of a rim-ding than a cud. A cud is when a portion of the (deteriorating) die breaks away (usually near the edge) and the planchet is not struck in that area. Since the Bust Half Dollar Series was struck without collar/s the evidence of a legitimate cud has yet to be proven. One must realize, if such a catastrophic die failure event were to have occurred the resulting coin would have been misshapen and subsequently tossed back into the melting pot and a new die grabbed. While there were cracks, chips, and die errors no 'cuds' have ever confirmed. Take Care Buddy Ben
You can't see all that much from the pics but it looks like a nice problem free piece from where I'm sitting and I'd be very proud to own it. Hope it looks even better in hand!
Ben: The only way i could really give you an honest opinion is for me to see the coin in hand. If you could send it to me, I will check it out and return it to you after I am done looking at it. (probably in about 30 or 40 years) Otherwise, suffice it to say it's a bust half... isn't that synonymous with nice coin??? LOL
I expect it'll be here by Monday afternoon (received e-mail from seller saying it's going in the mail today) and then I'll be able to take some more/better pictures. Thanks for looking guys. :thumb: Ben
hi Ben! nice coin! but you and treashunt (as well as a few others) know your bust coins..i have no idea as to variety. it is gorgeous and i wish pics brought out the true appearance of the coin. this half has excellent detail and seems to me to be in an earlier die state due to the lack of deterioration of the stars and letters detail. i may go out on a limb and bump this coin to a vf20...no grading guide in front of me so only my guess opinion.. it is still nicely centered and the fields and design seem relatively mark free. it is very attractive and an excellent addition to your collection. thank you for sharing.....steve
Opinions sought? In my un-biased and professional opinion, I believe that coin belongs in my coin collection, so hand it over Boneybutt. Ribbit Ps: Awesome CBH! :thumb:
