Howdy fellow coin peeps, :thumb: I found an interesting 1889-CC Morgan I believe to be a counterfeit and the bids are currently high, so I figured I post it here for the Morgan buffs to put their 2-cents in. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/USA-1889-CC-...goryZ523QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Ribbit
It seems that Australia is now importing from China. Look at his closed items, espcially this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110240732787
I am surprised the Chinese don't have more "agents" in the USA doing this same thing, selling here... giving the coin an air of more authenticity. When I was in China a couple of years ago I could talk down the prices of authentic coins easily, but the fakes, they would never budge on the price.
Has anyone other than me reported this to fleabay? http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...Listing+Policies+for+Sellers+>+Selling+Coins+
The seller even has something for Spock: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Edward-VII-1906-Indian-Rupee_W0QQitemZ110259204113QQihZ001QQcategoryZ124156QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Now that should raise his eyebrow. Ribbit Ps: The following question is concerning this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Spanish-Carolus-III-8-Reales-1776-Silver-Coin_W0QQitemZ110258609632QQihZ001QQcategoryZ39481QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Is it me or does Carlos have that Family Guy thing going down? :goof:
Okay, that first Morgan looks like an obvious fake to me, but I could be wrong. I'd stay away. Phoenix
The R and the B in Pluribus are severely flawed. Very fat and blocky. The N in Unum is fat on the bottom. Not a sharp edge like a real one. The S and the T in States on the reverse do not appear to line up very well. I'd also guess that the small indent seen on the lower part of the cheek was pressed in by the counterfeit die. Not to mention weird colored pics. I say it's fake.
Dear eBay Member, Thank you for writing eBay in regard to suspicious coin listings. Because eBay does not employ or train its Trust & Safety Customer Support Representatives to be experts in the area of coins and currency, we rely on expert opinions from knowledgeable people as well as reliable third party organizations, such as the American Numismatic Association (ANA). Your report will be reviewed by a group of members that comprise a community watch group for coin auctions. They then confer amongst themselves and either agree or disagree that the listings are problematic. They then forward that information to the ANA for review. The ANA can then agree or disagree after careful consideration. If they agree, they then contact the seller directly. Sellers are then afforded 24 hours in which to revise or cancel the auctions. If they fail to do so, eBay must cancel the auction. Please be sure to check our Prohibited, Questionable & Infringing Items pages for information on eBay listing policies and guidelines: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html
more info... there were only four basic reverse designs for the Morgan series. The "A" reverse from 1878 has eight tail feathers, the "B" reverse has seven tail feathers and a straight top arrow feather, the "C" reverse has a slanted top arrow feather, and the "D" reverse (which appears to be on this 1889-CC) was only used in 1921.
It,s our resposibility to report this obvious fraud to protect those collectors without the knowledge or help of others like those on this Forum rzage
