Do you dislike any particular coin series?

Don't worry, you will not get circulating $1 coins any time soon. Of course they would make a lot of sense, and people in many other countries use such coins every day. Then again, Europeans, Canadians etc. are used to the idea that coins are actually worth something in terms of purchasing power.

In the US that is different - coins are basically "worthless" (in the sense that you get them as change and maybe hoard but do not spend them). So it would be too much of an effort to change people's habits only in order to save some money.

It's simply easier and more practical to have a billfold with 10 $1 bills or whatever rather than 10 coins.

Odd, I hardly ever have ten coins in mine. Then again, I get them and spend them - including €1 and €2 pieces. Could easily do without 1 and 2 cent coins though. ;)

Series I dislike: Franklin halves, Ike dollars, Standing Liberty quarters, Washington quarters, peace dollars. Any circulating coin design over 50 years old (hey! that's all of them!) Anything reusing old designs: AGE, ASE, etc. Lots of modern commems, especially the Korean war monstrosity, Lions Club, Jefferson 250th anniversary, Kennedy Shriver, and all gimmicks like the curved baseball and Apollo 11 50th anniversary commems.

Series I like: buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, Morgan dollars, Barber coins, liberty nickels, walking liberty halves, Indian head pennies.

I want to see the mint go back to symbolic depictions of liberty, but with new designs, not rehashes of old stuff. Classic designs--not something that looks like it was designed by Andy Warhol.

Modern circulation issues from Lincoln cents to wash quarters / just throw them back in roll.

Did Nazi coins or currency have swastikas on them ? I suspect the bills did.

I still hate SBA dollars the most. Shield cents and the redesigned nickel right there. But I don’t like anything even remotely modern. Probably the least offensive to me is the Lincoln cent pre 1982 before the zinc garbage and the Ike dollars which I have a soft spot for as I liked them as a kid

As collectibles I dislike anything after 1964.
    Why?
I want my coins to have intrinsic value.

In general I dislike long sets, Seated Liberty's and Barbers in particular.
    Why?
I want to be able to at least think I have a chance of completing the set.
At my age and with my available funds I consider long sets to be out of reach.
EXCEPTION: I have a complete FE/IHC set but that was started 15-20 years ago.

Anything put out by the mint strictly for the collector/investor market--regardless of design. This includes (but isn't limited to) proofs, commemoratives, and bullion.

The job of the mint is to produce coinage for commerce. There isn't any other legitimate reason for its existence.

I also dislike any gold coin. IMO, NO design, regardless of any innate beauty, can overcome the horrible ugliness of that putrid baby crap looking metal.

    Greg Bayes Where's the loo?

I dislike most modern coinage beginning with the Eisenhauer. I don't understand why Kennedy, S B Anthony and Sacajawea images are on coins. Most of the nickels after the buffalo are bland or atrocious although I can tolerate the Westward Journey designs. If I could affect the change I would return to the Liberty and eagle styles, very classy coins those.

Or a live one for that matter. I personally like the Franklin half, but would be willing to let it go if we could get all the politicians and others off our coinage. I generally agree that "the mint (should) go back to symbolic depictions of liberty, but with new designs, not rehashes of old stuff. Classic designs..." Given the 2.5 oz medal this year, I'm not sure that the mint is capable of pulling that off tho.

Of course having the mint just produce coins for circulation would probably put several coin TV programs on cable out of business since the supply of "first day," special finish, flipper friendly, etc etc NCLT collector stuff would be severely curtailed.

Not crazy about Roosevelt dimes - Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson can go too.

352sdeer Collecting Lincoln cents for 50 years!

All of our currently circulating coins. To include the Kennedy half and Golden dollar coins. The Franklin half with his big bulbous head. Any Barber coins, he was a hack and not respected by his peers at the time. The flying eagle cent, an overly simple stupid obverse design. Most commemorative designs. And anything the mint will come out with in the near future as they just can’t get it right to save their souls!
