please can someone help identify this coin my father found about thirty years ago, it's about the size of a two pence piece please see photo's. look forward to your replys.
Either a fantasy piece, or a modern replica of an ancient Greek coin - probably the former as it is far to regular in shape and strike to be an original ancient.
It is a likely authentic 18th century French jetton. They are like little medallions, in bronze they are fairly common.
It is a French Jeton and here's one currently being auctioned: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140238540943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004 If your French is good, you may find out more about it. Ribbit
This is a Hans Krauwinkel Jetton hence the HK under the two people, it dates to the late 16th Century/Early 17th Century, certainly not a modern fantasy piece!! Cheers, Clive.
Here's another HK Jeton: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=370058108419&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=024 Ribbit
