I understand the desire not to spend big money on a camera support. That is part of the reason I built mine from lumber left over from other projects. The other, better reason is that a wood rack is a lot more stable than nearly any spindly tripod or copy stand on the market. What you build, measurements and the design depend on the camera and size range of coins you shoot. Below is my first digital camera on a very stable stand where half the cost was the bolt that attaches the camera to the wood and the one wood screw that holds it together.

My current camera weighs ten times what this one does so the stand is much more complex and expensive (maybe $5 in wood and a couple dollars in screws).

Yes, I know the coin is modern.

I should follow the evidence offered by @TIF, however it is too tempting to go with @dougsmit for this coin - with 44 posts mentioning Tranquillina (only 11 for the rest of the field).

He has also confessed a fondness for these coins, as well as once writing:
“Odessos is not the most common of the cities that issued these twin portrait coins. I don't have one.”

So, I am going to vote for @dougsmit for Coin#2 and I assume some photo editing or other trickery is at work. Alea iacta est.

@Parthicus could be the owner, but only if he was under the influence of an impressive photo from @dougsmit when he bid on this coin. Here’s a coin that I don’t remember bidding for, but apparently I did:

Rev: APOLLONI SANCTO, Apollo standing left, pouring wine from patera, and holding lyre; with lots of robe detail, S in right field, SMA in exergue

AAAAH but does he have one now? You will find out when all this is finished unless TIF was right and I have forgotten whether or not I own a coin like this or even this one. For the record, in the 20+ years I have participated in the online discussion of coins (Numism-L to Coin Talk and a couple hundred web pages, I have "confessed fondness" for a few hundred coins. I have known some of the other volunteers here long enough that I can say they have a considerable pile of numismatic interests as well. I do not know what coins they selected for this contest but I would be willing to bet I would be happy to have any of their coins in my collection. You might be well advised to expect mystery, intrigue, deception..... Perhaps we have the makings of a best seller dime novel??? Who would have thought old coins could be so ...... positively Byzantine?

I couldn't play the game because I can't refrain from posting my coins and I don't have much of anything I haven't already showed off. But this DOES look like a coin I would have in my collection. I have three coins of GIII & T from this mint, two of which are obverse die-matches to the OP coin. Look at the die damage at 10:00 on the obverse inscription.

    Here are the die-matched coins:

Gordian III and Tranquillina Odessos Serapis.jpg
Gordian III, with Tranquillina, AD 238-244.
    Roman provincial Æ Pentassarion; 26.1 mm, 13.33 g, 6 h.
    Thrace, Odessos, AD 241-244.
Obv: ΑVΤ Κ Μ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC ΑVΓ CЄ | ΤΡΑΝΚVΛ|ΛЄΙΝΑ, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right, vis-à-vis diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina left.
Rev: ΟΔΗC - CЄΙΤΩΝ, Sarapis wearing kalathos, standing left, extending arm and holding scepter; E (denomination) in left field.
    Refs: AMNG I 1696; Moushmov 1696; Varbanov 4599; SNRIS Odessus 15 (a9).

Gordian III and Tranquillina Odessos Tyche.jpg
Gordian III, AD 238-244, with Tranquillina.
    Roman provincial Æ Pentassarion, 27.4 mm, 12.23 g.
    Thrace, Odessos, AD 241.
Obv: ΑVΤ Κ Μ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC ΑVΓ CΕ-ΤΡΑΝΚVΛ-ΛEΙΝ[Α], laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right, vis-à-vis diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina left.
Rev: ΟΔΗCCΕΙ[ΤΩΝ], Tyche standing left, wearing polos, holding rudder and cornucopiae; E (denomination) in field, left.
    Refs: Moushmov 1697; Varbanov 4608; AMNG 2402.

And one with a different obverse die:

Gordian III and Tranquillina Odessos Athena.jpg
    Gordian and Tranquillina AD 238-244.
    Roman provincial Æ pentassarion, 26 mm., 11.98 g.
    Thrace, Odessos, AD 241-244.
Obv: AVT K M ANT ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC AVΓ TPANKVΛ-ΛЄΙΝ, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right, vis-a-vis diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina left.
Rev: ΟΔΗCCЄΙΤΩΝ, Athena wearing crested helmet, standing facing, head left, holding shield and grounded spear, E to left.
Refs: Varbanov 4555; AMNG 2382; Moushmov 1684; Lindgren III 814; SNG Cop 685; Mionnet Suppl II 951. 11.94.

I'm going with @Curtisimo on this one because the description of what he found appealing sounds like something that he would say.

It's @Parthicus all day. I recall him liking provincials and the write up sounds most like him.
I'm digging all the smoke and mirrors (That I'm seeing through like Snoop Dogg in his tour bus bathroom). I think this is supposed to make me think @dougsmit because he's done some interesting posts on these types in the past... But he wouldn't use the word "cool"! Nice try though.

Also, a bit disappointed that @Parthicus didn't drop a Parthian coin and make everybody think someone else is getting cheeky. It might've worked...

The smartest choice would be to vote five times for the same person to have at least one right !

Anyway my vote goes to dougsmit. Why ?
    Because of the confronted busts
    Why ?
    Because it's obvious
    Why ?
Well, because I'm with friends and we've been drinkin' three bootles of bourgogne wine which gives à much much clearer view on things !

    Next question please !

I'm glad that this shows GIII close to his wife (Tranquillina) and not his mom. In that year it was still OK to get close to your wife. I can't speak for the current rules of the younger generation. I know that Q knows this was his wife so I do not have to be offended by his assigning the creepy coin to me as an 'obvious' matter. I am not saying this is or is not my coin and warn that I subscribe to the old statement, "Everything I say is a lie!" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liar_paradox

If any of you watch 'Reality TV' you may know that the winners are usually most skillful at lying without other people (generally losers) suspecting that they are less than completely trustworthy. This thread is 'Reality CT'. Trust any of the volunteers at your own peril.

Don’t let the deviously cunning trickiness of our volunteers intimidate you into not to making a guess for this round!

There is still one more day to enter before Round 3 starts tomorrow.

You gotta make like @Ryro and sift through all the smoke and mirrors, everyone! :watching::wideyed::eek:

My joke above was merely a tongue-in-cheek way of bumping the thread and announcing there was only one day left. Sorry if that came off wrong. :muted::facepalm:

I am a little late, but hopefully not too late. I think the coin is from @Parthicus. I have seen some posts from him and they sounded the same as the description of this coin and therefore I think it is him. Moreover, it was not for nothing that Gordi was on his way to the east, he wanted to go to war with the Sassanidian Parths. I think that's another reason why Parthicus buy this coin.
