I know what these are called in Spanish , but not in English. Also don't know much of anything about them except they are a celtic type of coinages so to say before they had coins. Any one able to share some info ?
I think the bottom chunk is probably made of lead and is Phoenician....Nice find! Here's a site..Look at 12627-12630 Here's mine...12629 OOPS sorry forgot to add the link..https://edgarlowen.com/csgn-seals.shtml.. Here's one that sold recently..https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/nu...cockleshell_shape_1744_g/1159340/Default.aspx
The top left looks like Celtic Ring Money or just a harness ring from the Celts. Proto-Money: This is probably Celtic Proto-Currency, and more likely a horse harness ring traded for its Bronze value: Celtic AE Ring 800-500 BCE The bottom left looks similar to my Oscan Aes Formatum proto money. Oscan-Latin Aes Formatum scallop shell with Ribs 4th BCE Oscan-Latin Aes Formatum shell 25mm 12.8g
@Spaniard I have one just like yours in lead and one in bronze it is like the one @Alegandron posted. The pic above is the bronze one.
Here is a hoard that was found in England. Description: An absolutely Ultra rare chance of 135 stunning Celtic BC money rings a variety of sizes showing different denominations all from same hoard found at Sutton on Forest Yorkshire Britain in the 1960s in the line of ancient Celtic trackway from Scotland running through Easingwold and to Crayke hill top village thought to be Celtic hill top fortress, stunning piece of British history which has been sympathetically professionally cleaned to a high standard to show what was like when used in ancient times.
That's a nice bronze scallop you have there! Concerning the bronze rings, I have read about theories that these rings constituted parts of harness straps or other gear and not proto-money (see here). Maybe someone here knows more about this topic? I don't.
