If you could choose any designs that have been used previously or are currently used, what designs would you use for each denomination of US coin? If you choose to use a half dime design on a nickel, it would have to be enlarged. The same goes for other denominations whose sizes have changed. Note: it must have been a circulating coin! Here's mine: Cent: Flying Eagle Nickel: Buffalo Dime: Barber Quarter: Standing Liberty Half: Franklin (who would have guessed Dollar: Presidential Dollar I think this would be a fun combination! I need a Flying Eagle cent to have one of each though.
Here's mine: Cent: Flying Eagle Nickel: Sheild with rays Dime: Drapped Bust with Heraldic Eagle Reverse Quarter: Standing Liberty (1916 design) Half: Draped Bust (1801 Design) Dollar: Morgan Dollar
Here's mine: Cent: Flying Eagle Nickel: buffalo 1913 Dime: Seated Liberty Quarter: Barber Half: Draped Bust Dollar: Gold Dollar type 2
Here are my choices: Cent - Matron Head Large Cent Nickel - Capped Bust Half Dime Dime - Draped Bust Dime, Plain Eagle Quarter - Standing Liberty Half Dollar - Flowing Hair Half Dollar - Seated Liberty
Cent , Flying eagle Nickle , Buffalo type 1 Dime , Mercury Quarter , Standing Liberty Type 1 Half , Draped bust Dollar , Gobrecht dollar rzage
Cent: Flying Eagle 5 Cent: Bust Half Dime 10 Cent - MEcury 25 Cent - Standing LIberty 50 Cent - Walking Liberty 1 dollar - Trade Dollar
My choices are: Cent - Flying Eagle Nickel - Indian Head (Buffalo) Dime - Mercury Quarter - Standing Liberty Half - Walking Liberty Dollar - Peace That said, some of these designs would not be the same as the original if they were reinstated because of required mottoes mandated by Congress. The Flying Eagle Cent is about as simple a design as ever seen on a US coin. It does not contain the currently-required word 'LIBERTY' nor the mandated mottoes ' IN GOD WE TRUST' and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. This beautiful coin just would not look the same once these elements are added. My guess is the eagle would have to be shrunk down quite a bit to include these elements which would ruin the effect. Where would we squeeze in 'IN GOD WE TRUST' on the Buffalo nickel? It was packed in (in small type) under the Buffalo's head on the $50 American Buffalo gold bullion piece. This cluttered look ruins the effect IMO. My other choices include all the mandated design elements but some of the other posters' choices do not. Trying to reinstate old coin designs is a bit like building a classic car today. Can you imagine a Duesenberg with modern bumpers? Or a 1964 GTO with anti-smog equipment? A Model T Roadster just wouldn't be the same with a padded dash, seat belts and air bags.
greetings! you all have wonderful ideas. in honesty, and i really don't care which coin they are put on...i would love to see a flowing hair coin, the 1872 amazonian quarter design, the longeacre indian princess design, morgans' 1877 "defiant eagle" half dollar and 1877 "schoolgirl" dollar design, and the "stella" design. we had some great patterns that never made it to production. it would be nice to see a true revival of our coinage. only my humble opinion........steve yes, i know it was for previously used designs and i am sorry i am a little off topic, but we certainly had some gorgeous designs that would put much modern currency to shame.....sorry for the nonconformity, but we did use the flowing hair design~!!!

Well, since we can mix and match, thats just what I'll do, as we've already seen the past design on past coins relating to their denomination, and repeats are just boring. *Cent: Seated Liberty dollar design 1866-1873. Not a lot of detail, so it would look nice on a tiny coin. *Nickel: Barber quarter design. I don't like the Barber design, but I might if it were placed on a smaller coin. *Dime: Liberty Head cent design 1816-1857.The design always seemed too small for the large cent, so maybe it would work on a dime. * Quarter: Indian Head half eagle design. The IH gold design has always been my favorite, si it would be nice to have it on a quarter dollar to enjoy. *Half: Ok, so I'll let this one slide and go back to a classic. The 1801-1807 Draped Bust Heraldic Eagle Reverse design. Probably by far the best half design ever in my opinion, and yet so tragically short-lived. *Dollar: Liberty Cap High-Relief cent design 1794-1797. Another great design that didn't stick around very long. Guy~
Bust Draped Cent Bust Half Dime (Nickel) Bust Dime Bust quarter Bust Half Bust dollar As you can tell, I like busts
Cent: Flying Eagle or Indian cent Nickel: Buffalo (no doubt) Dime: draped bust (as in 1805) Quarter: Standing Liberty Half: Walking liberty Dollar: Sac ! IMHO, Coins with real persons portrayed lack character, They could be construed by some as political (except for Lincoln or Washington). The Sac is my exception; great design; If only it were used. :smile
