hehe. Yeah, paint doesnt mean anything, I found the quarter first, then the cent. Then I thought, why not start a Red-Paint collection? I still need a nickel and dime
I know back in the Kennedy administration people were painting a red skullcap on Washington's head on the quarters. Made it look like the pope (Kennedy was Catholic.)
I believe red painted coins were used by game machine (pinball, video, etc.) providers. They would give them to the proprietor of the establishment who would use them in the games for to entice people to play, like a free sample. When the vendor emptied the machine, he would give he red coins to the proprietor to continue using them.
Lol, I saw the title, and got excited you got some red Lincoln's (natural ). Nice coins, none the less. :thumb: Phoenix
This isn't the case for these coins, but I have heard that some laundromat owners would turn (I'm not sure the process) Susan B. Anthonies dollars a different colour so that they would not get mixed up with quarters. I'm not sure how common this was though.
Years ago I owned an arcade and we did in fact have colored quarters that we gave away as samples for gaming. Free pinball game, game of pool or whatever. Doesnt explain the cent however.
Lol same thing i expected. I should start to paint all my change red and do an experiemtn to see if any of it comes back to me =P
do it a different color. Especially quarters. Ive seen Black, Blue, Red, and Green quarters all in change. I should have saved them. haha
I the label would read MS70 NT Paint-Toned. I figure they can not get the grades correct they can not get the toning correct either.
