1944D mercury dime graded MS65 by ANACS that I can't even remember year I purchased. My question is if there is a set number of years that grade is valid and would it have to be graded again? Second question is when did full bands become sought after and is this considered a full band? Third is the MM and if strike arrow is pointing to was seen as the RPM?
1st question NO! As long as it stays in that holder that's the grade. 2nd question The middle band is not detailed enough to make this coin a FB. Not sure when the FB started as it doesn't matter to me. 3rd question The holder says RPM-3. The mintmark is a D over a D. It also says that in the holder.
Thanks, I should have taken pic from a better angle to show top of MM, because it shows top of another MM and in center of the D there is another strike but not sure if it's the bottom of the strike from top. I am using 30x loop and 50x for the pic so was really stretching what I was looking at.
I think I see some separation in the serif at the top left of the D. The grade is still valid. The middle bangs don’t appear to have 100% separation. I believe ANACS was using the split band designation at the time that holder was used. So if FSB is not on the label then ANACS did not think they were fully split.
Thanks, I remember it was purchased in early 90's but not sure when it was graded is why I asked. Awesome that holder can indicate roughly period it was graded.
All I can tell from the front image of the slab is that it was slabbed after April 2000. That's when they went to the 19 character bar code. It is before Feb 2005, that was when the white "soap bar" holders were shifted to problem coins only.
Holy batbrain damage Batman! My memory is really shot then. Could have sworn I purchased it in early 90's. But I have purchased other slabbed coins so I must have mixed decade up with other purchase. Thanks for the information Conder101
