so i got my lot from one auction house today some of the best looking portugese india proof coins i have ever seen. but then the unthinkable happened i had bought 4 lots they shipped me 5 lots without going into details the 5th coin that i did not buy or pay for is worth a significant sum of money i emailed the manager asking for the address where i could send it back. i dont know why i dont win the lottery but get these kind of things instead i didnt even get my 2007 reverse from the mint but here anothe rmistake and now it will cost me a ton of money to return the coin wel here are the excerpts from my email :sigh: what makes matters worst is i had bought that same coin froma portufgese seller and it turned out to be a dud Dear XXXX, I received my coins today. I had won only 4 coins and paid for them but I received 5 coins. It was the XXXXX and I realized it was a mistake lot no XXXX. Please let me know the address I should return the coin too. If it was however a sort of new member gift then let me know that as well . Your sincerely spock
Why is it going to cost you money? Tell them that you want it picked up by a carrier at their cost. It's their mistake, and you should not have to pay.
That sucks man, but maybe you'll get the coin for free. You should see if they will pay for shipping since they made the mistake. stainless
hoever if they said its a welcome present for a new customer now that would be a different story. now my friend on heritage we never see him giving friendly gifts to his customers
Still, you should tell them that you have done the correct thing by calling their attention to this, and tell them that you expect them to have it picked up and insured at their cost. That is certainly fair.
Spock, Was this us? If so I will send you a prepaid FedEX label so that it can be returned at our expense and under our insurance. If it is not us then you should request the same from whoever it is. If it is us, email/pm me to let me know.
no it wasnt you guys this was a european dealer those guys are complete nuts i had to spend 20 bucks and call that guy so i could pay him and get my lots. would the europeans be able to do something like that i shouldnt have to go to the post office and spend postage to return coins to europe
I believe that UPS delivers worldwide. I see no reason that they could not direct a prepaid label to you. Or you could go to the USPS and find out how much it would cost to ship to the european country. Tell them that you want postage and insurance paid up front in a US $ money order, or in generic silver to value.
If they refuse...keep the coin(s). I would not feel inclined to pay for somebody else's mistake. Offer to do the correct thing, and if they do not meet you halfway, which is to pay shipping and insurance, tell them to bugger off. You are doing the correct thing by telling them. They can do their part. How much is this coin(s) worth, anyway?
Well, contact them and see what they will do. If they are not interested, keep the coin. They may be so big that this is more trouble to them than they think is worth pursuing.
If not, give them one more chance, and tell them that you are NOT going to pay freight and insurance. Then keep it. You tried. I generally give people one chance and a final warning.
spock, You should not pay for their mistake! Either they pay the shipping and pickup of the coin or you keep it! Also, since you did not purchase the coin, they have no legal right to charge your' Credit Card. If they do, then contact your' Credit Card Company and have them reverse the charges, cancel your current card and issue you a new one. They will either comply to your request to pay for the shipping and pickup of th coin or they will eventually have to eat the 190 pound refund back to the original buyer of the coin. Frank
You can also ask if they have an affiliate in the US that would accept the coin for them and issue a credit to their account. I am not sure what the postage to Europe is, but I was going to send a one pound package to Australia for ten bucks. I do not think this would be a great deal of money in any case.
The easiest way to solve it is ship it to me. I'll send you a pre-paid FedEx package, that way it doesn't cost you a penny. Then you can contact the auction peeps and let them know you don't have it any longer, so how can they charge you for something you don't have nor did you bid on it or ask them to send it to you. Ribbit Ps: If they charge your credit card afterwards, do what Huntsman said. Pps: The auction house should have an account that you can use to bill the shipping to. Look on the shipping label of the package you received from them and use the account number from it to bill the shipping to.
