I consider it a "need to know" hobby. And other than my wife and kids, I haven't found a compelling reason to let anyone else know about it. Not going out of my way to be secretive. It's just never come up, and I assume most people would find it uninteresting. If a good friend revealed that he/she was a collector, I'd probably fess up. Edit: just realized my first wife knows too. Better step up my security.
@Islander80-83 i tell people all the time that I collect coins. Those that are interested ask questions those that aren’t don’t. I collect Lincoln cents mainly and some nickels when I want to search boxes sometimes. So I just talk about Lincolns. I think it best to talk about one subject when talking to people that don’t collect so as to not overwhelm them and make their heads spin. We collectors can be very passionate about our collections and sometimes I have to be aware of my passion to not to talk them to death. Reed
I have had that same feeling, too. Many people really don't want to go outside of the usual routine. It's their decision, of course, but I couldn't handle it. As for my other "unusual" hobbies (some of these have come and gone): -Draw comics -Write and record music -Watch silent animation -Read just about anything (including philosophy) -Create animation -Create and Fly rockets -Restore old phonographs -Study Spanish, French, Japanese, Arabic, Ojibwe, Dakota -Play 19th century banjo -Practice Kyudo -Make short videos -Collect Inuit art -Want to go to Greenland more than any other country -Post on forums (I NEVER admit this in public) So, yes, maybe we're a bizarre lot. I don't know.
Hey, maybe we could start one of those “People of coinshows” websites to compete with the “People of Walmart” website. I am going to a show tomorrow....... No wait.... They just might make me the poster child..... Never mind....
I was kind of crossing my fingers that I didn’t post a pic of anybody here. Vienna, VA show if anyone was curious
Ouch, that's the "double whammy" for me! Most?...ah...No! ...perhaps, besides you, she's the last to know... Ditto! Well, for my part, I don't like to let others know what I may or may not have around, so I don't advertise. My friends Smitty & Wes are around here a lot, but when there's no one here, my security advisors, Dewey, Killem, & Howe have things covered. It's a different world out there...
Coins from 2002 have been around for 2 decades. The years 2000 to 2009 is known as the "oughts" and the 2010 to 2019 is known as the teens. 2 decades.
99.5 percent of the people think you’re nuts. The other one half of one percent are thinking about robbing your house.
I got a bad house to rob. Owned by a crazy redneck life member nra married to a crazy redhead who’s about like Annie Oakley and guarded by a spring loaded catahoula. (Actually Just obnoxious friendly but they don’t know that) 8 cats and some equally well armed neighbors who I know well all have lived here forever too. And my neighbors best friend is a sheriff detective. I feel very safe where I live. It’s when I travel I feel a lot more unsafe. Why I want a 50 state carry permit. Where I can carry I don’t often worry. It’s the places I can’t I’d the problem though I usually have a 12 gauge in my truck too
