I have a 1968 Penny with a coin date error. The date on the Penny has an B where the 8 should be. It actually says 196B instead of 1968..... Could someone give me more information on it and maybe what the value of such an error may be worth. Thank you.
Without photos we can lend nothing more than an educated guess...... Copper is very soft. We often see copper cents posted here with all manner of unusual script because when the old cents are dropped, hit or whatever they may have come into contact over their lifetime the blow will move the script to appear to be something that it isn't. Welcome to CT.
Damaged. The date is not punched individually into a single die, so if they had made 196B coins there would be millions.
I too have a 196B s penny but I also having trouble finding out anything about it. I'm new about this coins collecting and selling I hope there's someone out there can give me help me on this or steer me in the right direction I appreciate it thank you
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Bert! In all likelihood, the last "8" on your coin has been damaged, but you will have to post a good close-up of the date for us to be sure. Please start your own thread. Chris
Welcome to CT both Dennis and Bert. If you read most of the posts, you'll see it repeated over and over. Without good photographs, it's pretty difficult to give any advice. Always post FULL size (not thumbnail) photos that are in focus and full obverse (heads) and reverse (tails) photos that are correctly orientated and cropped to show just the coin, and then close ups of any areas you question, like the date. Chances are you simply have post mint damaged coins or PMD that occurred after the coin left the mint. Value? One cent.
What makes paddyman 98 such an expert? Does everyone always just kneel down to his opinions, give me a break?
Hey.. I have never called myself an expert.. Only a specialist. I don't ever force anyone to believe me nor kneel down to me. That's wrong. I am a very humble collector of mint errors for 34 years now.. Please don't trash me Yup.. Those are my mint errors.
