Here is a new Parthian I picked up, this is of Vologases IV. Although it isn't perfect, for $40 total, I think it was a decent price. AR Tetradrachm O: Diademed bust left, wearing long beard, earring, and tiara decorated with “hooks”; B to right; all within pelleted border. O: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΑΡΣΑΚΟΥ ΟΛΟΓΑΣΟΥ ΔΙΚΑΙΟΣ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦΙΛΕΛΛΗΝΟΣΣ) (month) in exergue.king enthroned to right receiving diadem from Tyche holding sceptre. Dated 495 ΕϘΥ ΑΠΕΛ (183 AD) Seleucia mint 25mm 10.96 Sellwood 84.96-103 cf. Shore 432.
I love those classic Portuguese types in general, but that one, with the frosty devices and that subtle rim toning, is really lovely. Congrats.
Got this today from a friend. I do not collect bullion coins but I do collect Canadian coins and I have never had a reverse proof before. Plus I never turn down free silver.
Italian States / Sicily MESSINA 1355-1377 Pierreale of Federico IV "the Simple" D'Aragon, MIR-194/46. PCGS AU58
Napoleon had a really rough time in Spain, failing to decisively destroy the parties guerrilla forces. Spain bled out hundreds of thousands of fighters, ultimately weakening Napoleon's power in the region. Great coin
Here are a few new additions that I got around to photographing today. I have some more research to do on the 1799 Halfpenny. By all accounts, it appears to be a normal currency strike, but the edges are sharp and the obverse signature on the lowest fold is unusual. Although it could just be a die pair I have never seen before. There were a ton of working dies for these pieces.
Acquired this Mysore 1811-1830 Gold Pagoda in MS62. Well centred and well struck I think and a very good price too:
A few coins came yesterday. Note the King Rama VI Thailand 1 baht, date BE2457/1914 AD. Mintage only 490,000 making it the key date for that series.
German States - Trier Gold Gulden (1388-1418) Issued by Archbishop Warner von Falkenstein, (1388-1418). Oberwesel mint. Freiberg 3428, Noss 334b.
German States - Mainz Gold Gulden (1397-1419) Issued by Archbishop Johann II von Nassau, (1397-1419). Bingen mint. Fr-1615, Felke 576.
@coin_nut though the 1914 has the lowest mintage, the 1913 is actually harder to acquire and goes for more money. I'm still looking for a 1913 and its very hard to find one, even in thailand!
Bought this on a whim because I didn't have any Swiss Canton coins, and it seemed to be a shoutout to my home state 1795 AD 3 Sols | Billon Swiss Canton of Geneva KM#108
Here is a new Greek Silver I picked up. I don't get to add Greek silver very often so it's a nice feeling to get one every now and then. Thessaly, Pherai, (302 - 286 B.C.) AR Hemidrachm, 15mm, 2.46 grams Obverse: Wreathed head of Ennodia left, torch to right. Reverse: The nymph Hypereia standing left touching the top of a lions head fountain from which water pours forth, AS TO within wreath to lower left. 2.46g 15mm BCD Thessaly II, 714 // HGC 4, 553 ex BCD Collection
Congo 2017. Technically it is probably a bullion piece but I like the design. 100 Grams (3.215 Troy oz) of .999 Obverse: image of a Water Buffalo Reverse: coat of arms for the Congo
