1998 D Jefferson question

1998 D Jefferson that weighs in at 4.84g. CAN DDD, MAD or MD cause the extra metal flow at base of lettering in Pluribus and base of building? And what can cause bubbling on obverse between letters in Liberty?

I am new to this, as well. You can learn a lot on here! I would say the Pluribus question is post mint damage. It looks like something circular and hollow clashed with the coin, displacing metal. Don't bank on me though! I should have been more specific...the marks on RIB.

 

From what so can see both sides of this coin are suffering from corrosion. Whatever it is it is making the metal expand. This coin is damaged.

 

There is "nothing to write home about" on this coin. It is in grungy condition. Period! What I don't understand is why people look for varieties and/or errors on beat-up, well circulated coins. You're just wasting your time.
