Sealed 1996 W Dime DIE CLASH!

Does anyone kn8w if there is a step by step for submitting the coin for grading/observation? I have never done it at all with any coin in the past. Thanks everyone for the replies and interest

I would be in the $40 range, which is high for a die clash. I like that it is still in the mint cello. I'm not as interested if it was slabbed.

You can either have a dealer submit it for you or you can send it yourself. The thing is... do you really need to verify the die clash? Because the coin is worth about the same slabbed or not and sending it would do nothing but eat away most, if not all of any potential profit when you sell it.

 

Nice find, and as others have said die clashes in most cases are worth very little if anything. However this as far as I know right now is a one of a kind with a strong clash on a West point so if you were to send it in and get it attributed as discovery piece the sky is the limit if it was to go a bid war but do not expect to retire from it.

 

I asked for price opinions before. Was told $100-$200. Sold for $750. I think the right buyer would pay up. My lunch was $40, I left a tip, and it wasn't very good.

 

Yeah for 40$ i would keep it. I don't expect to retire from the profit but yeah it seems pretty unique and i think some collectors would love to have it in their collection haha. I appreciate everyone and their info you guys are awesome

Errors are unique, but this isn't an error. It will just be a matter of time until others are discovered. Since these didn't circulate, they will all be mint state. You could get it listed as a discovery piece, but the extra costs will just eat into any profit. Fred Weinberg would be able to give a good estimate of value.

 

Twenty four years has been a matter of time and I've not seen this particular variety. While there are likely more IIRC the 96W was a small mintage. It's worth what someone will pay. There of course is a reference based on similar clashed coins it's difficult to valuate a one off. It's definately more interesting than the tomato I sold on Ebay and that went for $120.

Jamee Novotney chose to auction this coin on Ebay. I won the coin, paid, and he never shipped it. Beware...

The member in question has not been on CoinTalk since November 2019.. He was kind of sketchy.

 

I see one graded by PCGS listed on Ebay that looks very similar, but it’s listed for $699.

 

I spoke with the dealer selling that coin, he said he found it in a mint set...it's definitely the same clashed die...guess no one can be sure if it's the exact same coin...and there could be more than 1.

I have no proof of anything other than I bid on that coin and never got it. I did get a refund eventually, but it was via a Paypal dispute a month later.

I just wanted to warn you all about him in case he is still active here.
