hey everyone, i recently purchased this unique old coin (ring added to make it into a pendant..) that was purchased in India. I would like to know more about it. I believe that the symbols are Persian/Arabic, and that the reverse y and "9" are numbers etc, also the big J. not sure what the tree or fish looking symbols mean as i have not seen those before. It's the size of a nickel..weights more, i assume it's a higher content silver but am not sure. Any ideas? origin? content? Thanks! http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/40646/2645365640084609245S500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb32.webshots.com/42655/2394976770084609245S500x500Q85.jpg
It looks similar to an Indian Princely State of Awadh 1 Rupee, km103.2, dated 1233(1817) with a frozen regnal year of 26. But there are several differences compared the KM picture, including the backwards date. The reverse 'y' is the 2 of the regnal year 26, and according to KM the '9' is the flag of the "flag and star" mint mark. I suspect the 'big J' is part of the mint name Awadh.
