I am going to a bank that I am not a member of with $300. I am going to use $100 to get rolls of dimes to fill up coin books. With the remaining $200, I am trying to find: Error coins, silver coins(mainly half dollars), uncirculated state quarters, america the beautiful quarters, and westward journey nickels, and war nickels. NO PENNIES, only nickels, quarters and half dollars. How many of each type of coin should I get and what should I say to the bank teller?

It's always going to be a roll of the dice as to what you may find so the mix is up to you. But being from a bank in which you don't have an account be especially nice when you ask for your coins. They are not obligated to help you this way in giving out rolls which they prefer to give to account holders and local business. And for sure, do not return to the same bank as you will ruin your chances of them doing this again for you. JMHO.

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

The likelihood of finding uncirculated rolls of SQ's or ATB quarters or Westward Journey nickels at any bank will be somewhere between slim and none. You do realize that such uncirculated rolls would have to be of the same design, date & mintmark, don't you?

So, if you want to acquire uncirculated rolls of any of these, you will probably have to buy them on the open market at a premium.

@nwm ...put yourself in the tellers’ shoes...don’t be surprised if, as @tommyc03 said, they ask you if you are an account holder, and deny you request if you are not. Account holders play trump cards.

You might fib a little: tell them you are traveling or visiting family from out of town. I have actually, recently, had to do this and most banks will grant the request out of courtesy.

As far as the coins you are CRH: Hundreds of rolls can be searched and little found. That is the nature of CRH. It takes a long time to accumulate a collection, unless you buy what has already been found...Spark

In my community I can buy boxes at Chase Bank without being a member.
When you are done with CRHing don't return the coins to the same Bank you bought them from or you might get the same ones back.
    BTW welcome to CT.

TD bank doesn't give out rolls anymore without a commercial account. The credit union does where I live, but they aren't obligated to do it. If chase does it, then I'm disappointed. The closest Chase is far from me.

Put $50-100 into a new account. Now you are a real customer and can ask for what you want. Most banks are doing fees, but usually not to customers. Be sure to remember the tellers name, they may not remember yours , but if you call them by their name, they will be nicer. Do not return the coins there, pay for things with them, or put them into the kettle at holidays. Jim

Well if I am not mistaken, you can only get Half Dollars by the box. Well, that's what B of A tells me. A box is $500. I buy a box at least once a month for the last two years. Out of 24 months, I have ONLY found (1) silver coin that was 40% silver which was a 1968. Other than that...nothing! But I keep looking. What I do find are great uncirculated finds. Example: after 2001, the banks stop circulating Kennedy half dollars. But I have found at least 30 different Kennedy's dating from 2002 to 2018. I keep those and return the rest. I also find a lot of Doubling on Kennedy's...Mouths, Eyes, Chins, and back of the head...every cool to find. But you have to have an extra $500 to go through all those. Good luck!

You can always ask for loose or customer rolls.

Welcome to CT. Many things involve where you live and the banks policies. Don't be shocked by what you might hear. You may be required to be an account holder to buy, trade or sell back those unwanted coins. You will need to roll them. If you dump them in a coin star machine you'll be losing money as they charge you a fee.

First you must decide on what you want to collect, what grade/condition the coins are in for your collection and what you hope to accomplish.

If you plan on CRHing to strike it rich, forget it. Again, welcome to CT and happy hunting.

You can build AU/BU sets of State Quarters CRH while looking for other finds, but it may take a while. Also, keep in mind that if you have an LCS near you, buying these specimens in BU state wouldn't cost you much. They made an awful lot of those state quarters to make them not very valuable and complete sets can be purchased for not much. But if you are a traditionalist, there's nothing like building your own circulation set. Same is true of the Westward Journey series. There are tons of them. I have had some great success regarding CRH finds for the series. I have rolls of each date/mm. Pretty much all BU.

If you're looking for Ike Dollars, you may have to say the large dollars in the $20 rolls for the teller to understand.

CHASE! I have 4 local branches within 20 minutes. At first only a couple would provide boxed coins they had in vault and none would order halves or nickels for me and I never deposit coin with a branch that is willing to sell me coin. After visiting these branches a few times now none of them will sell me any coin...and none will accept deposit of rolled coin either. ...and I’m an account holder. I’m about to close my account and move to a different bank entirely. Maybe Suntrust. I have a small account at Wells Fargo and I’ve never had issues with them. I think they are trying to build customer confidence after the shenanigans they pulled a couple/few years ago.

    SunTrust sucks! Don't bother.

Many banks will not accept that much exchange without a record. Chase is $100, Wellsfargo is $20, etc. If they allow it, it will be an exception. Good luck.
