Posted here because most don't see general discussion. Be gone for a week to New Hampshire to my time share on Lake Winny but will be all over the state N,E,& West of there. My first real father & son trip with my son Jeffery that did not include my family when both boys were young. I'll be 65 in Dec. and he is 38. Time waits for no one and I really felt this was important because you just never know. Some things on my list are a few old ghost towns I've mapped out. Some easy hiking trails for the old man. The Loon Sanctuary, Madison Boulder in Madison which is one of the largest glacial erratics. Mount Kearsarge & Rollins State Park. Holderness Wildlife Sanctuary and maybe a boat ride on the lake where they filmed "On Golden Pond". Rattlesnake Mountain and Chocura Mountain. The Kank of course with a side trip to the abandoned town of Livermore. Much more if I can fit it in and plenty of bad eating habits including a pork specialty place in Ossipee. And to make this an official coin post, a trip to Newfound Coin & Jewelry. And no internet for a week. You all have a wonderful week my friends. Catch ya' on the flip flop.
Enjoy that father and son time who knows how many more we have. They grow up so quick and the next thing you know they don't have time.(ENJOY)
I have visited the abandoned town of Livermore in the past but never fully scoped out the entire property. It was an old logging community and was just left to waste away once the timber was gone. They then left to build another town and start the process all over again. Here are a few pics from the day and one which is what I saw on my last visit. None are my photos. But I love this type of old history and sometimes just sit in the middle of it all for a short while and imagine all the hustle and bustle going on back then.
I know the neighborhood well is not far from me. About an hour plus. The barbecue place is really good. I like their burgers with either pulled pork or brisket on them personally. I’ve eaten there many times. As it’s often on my way west Right on the corner of 25 and 16. The kancamangus is always a fun drive especially this time of year and especially if you have something that’s fun to drive. I’ve driven across it many times also what’s nice is not all the tourists as in the summer
I've been by the pork place dozens of times and still have no clue why I never stopped in. It has great reviews and it's said no matter what you order, the waitress's will always suggest something in the same range that costs less but you get so much more. And the Kank is always nice the last week of October with very little traffic. I stopped by here today because my son is going to be late getting here to pick me up. Still installing a part in his Ranger. Have also always had good food at Patrick's Pub in Guilford, Harts Turkey Farm in Meredith and T-Bones in Laconia. Also at Merlinos in Conway.
Have fun and don't forget to relax. Just being with your son and having undivided attention is a treat.
@tommyc03 NH is one of the 8 states I've never been too. Your photos and itinerary make me want to leave right now. Wow what a beautiful State and so much to see and do. Add in some antique shops and I'll meet you there. Lol Have a great time with your son! The time you spend together will mean more to you than anything else. Enjoy yourself and take photos so you can post them here on CT.
You must add it to your bucket list my friend. Once you leave the lowlands near Lake Winny and start the climb north up Rt. 3 and see the mountains in the Presidential range appear, you will, have one of those "Oh My God" moments. It reminds me of the first time I saw the Atlantic ocean starting from Hampton Beach, N.H. and rode the coast on Rt 1 and realized how small I felt. Or the time I rode the Cog Railway and made it to the top of Mt. Washington, -20 degrees, crystal clear day and could see all the way to Canada & Boston. The first pioneers made all that possible. It has such a rich history.
yeah it’s good. I’ve stopped in usually for lunch a bunch of times. Poor peoples pub in Wakefield is good too and a place called canoe in center harbor I haven’t eaten at that one but is the same owner as the one in Bedford where I usually eat when found the NH coin show and they have awesome black and blue filets for reasonable money
