Coin metal is relatively soft and it doesn’t take much to move it around and make it look like something that could be a mint error. In this case I agree with Chris and Larry it’s just damage after it left the mint. PMD, post mint damage. Hope this helps.

Trisia...Im a total dork so this is for sure the type of PMD I like to keep. That almost looks like a hoop half around the date. No premium or anything but surely a cool find to a very few dorks like myself.

Of course there are coins that carry a premium and those are the holy grails. I found this hobby so much more enjoyable when you get satisfaction from the coins that dont have a premium either. For the "art" of them, the "beauty", the weirdness, oddness or any reason at all its interesting to you. The people here are super cool about that too. Just know as you learn, it just creates more questions! Know that 99% of what you think is something at first, probably isnt....and these guys here dont lie about squat. If its junk, they tell you! Thank God too because otherwise, it would be pointless and dumb here. There isnt a site online that has more combined experience and knowledge.

Cent and Cents are the correct term.

    Those crazy Brits minted pennies.

As to the other, your collection your rules people don't like it bleep them all the way to the door and then slam it in their face...

I have to wonder if this could be a die chip or die scratch. The metal seems to be raised, and I don't see where it might have been moved from. But I'm a newbie, so i'll accept the PMD ruling. I was just wondering.

The metal is raised and very uniform.and it smooth with no deep dig marks so you would think if it was the 9 would be less readable but i will also go with PMD.
