That is really, really attractive, bcuda. Great strike and toning. Here is how one of these look for around $15: Antoninus Pius Æ Sestertius (143-144 A.D.) Rome Mint ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP COS III, laureate head right / [IMPERATOR II] SC, Fides standing right, holding corn-ears and dish of fruit. RIC 716a; Sear 4181. (18.34 grams / 30 mm)
Lovely coin, @bcuda , with very nice toning! Here's my favorite Antoninus Pius sestertius because it depicts two of his grandchildren: Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161. Roman orichalcum sestertius; 22.75 gm, 30.7 mm, 12 h. Rome, AD 149. Obv: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XII, laureate head right. Rev: TEMPORVM FELICITAS, COS IIII in exergue, S C across field, crossed cornucopiae from which a grape bunch flanked by two grain ears hang, surmounted by confronted busts of two children. Refs: RIC 857; BMCRE 1827-29; Cohen 813; RCV 4236; Strack 1026; Banti 411.
Sweet! Heres my favorite sestertius from Maximinus Thrax. The one in my profile pic. I think I got it for round $80 bucks, but that was a while ago, back in the boom.
Super coin @bcuda .......What a great deal! Here's how they look for about $40 ANTONINUS PIUS. 138-161 AD. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 26.75 g.) Struck 159/160 AD. Obverse..ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XXIII, laureate head right Rev. PIETATI AVG COS IIII SC, Pietas standing left holding globe, Faustina Junior as Pietas standing left, between Faustina Minima, Lucilla & holding baby Fadilla. RIC III 1031
@Roman Collector ....I really liked the reverse of your sestertius so started looking around....You probaly know this....'The infants are thought to be T. Aelius Antoninus and T. Aurelius Antoninus, the twin sons of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina Junior born in AD 149. These were the first male offspring of the couple, offering hope for the establishment of the new dynasty, and both died in infancy'. .... Then I read.... 'Two cornucopiae crossed, surmounted by infants busts, one of which is the future Empress Lucilla.'...I know this design is based on the sestertius of the sons of Drusus and Livia Drusilla (Livilla)....Is there a link where I can read up on this reverse design?...Thanks
