    O:Winged bust of Eros right. R:ΒAΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΑΝΤΙOΧOY / ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ, headdress of Isis, monogram outer left field,below date EOP ( = SE 175 = 138/9 BC ). 5.8 g, 18 mm.

    These are called Serrated, just like many steak knives that have a serrated edge today. Some ancient coin theories state that it was a way to thwart folks from clipping the edges of coins, especially silver and gold, to steal some value away from them. I think for AE coins, it was a cool design that can distinguish them. The Seleukids had several serrated coins.

    Rome had various Denarii that were serrated, and I have an unusual version from the Carthage Empire that was. This was one of the last series of coins that Carthage struck before they were exterminated by the Romans.

    Great coin, @Shrews1994 ! Seleucids have some very beautiful portraits on them, they’re fun to collect, and the cost of the bronzes is fairly low and reasonable. I have a couple of Antiochus VIII denominations. One of them features my one and only owl :pigeon:
