I was at the sports store buying golf balls b/c I shanked all mine in the woods. I got nine dollars in change and then I noticed under the five the teller gave me was a new $5 with a star. With out a doubt I saw it right off the bat. Immediately I noticed there was a line behind me only had seconds to act. So thinking quickly I asked for change for a twenty, obviously a ten and two fives. So she grabs then ten, big deal what ever, then it super ultra slow motion I see her grab the stack of fives and ........................she grabs two off the bottom and doesn't give me the new star that wa on top!!! DOLT. I didn't have the guts to ask her to make change again.
i have only found 1 at work so far. i am surprised i haven't seen more. i was lucky to pick up 15 consecutive UNC notes on auction for pretty cheap.
good try kneil3 did ya happen to notice i was the guy behind you? i must have been, cuz in the golf shop today, i received not 1, not 2 but THREE new $5 stars in consecutive order even. i must thank you for not asking for them again .. just kidding
too bad you didn't we could have worked out a trade. Oh well I am sure there will be more to find. hey, they next one might be a radar star!!
Is it me or has anyone else noticed that the new 5's stars have all been from the Boston FRB?? RickieB
good catch rickieB! i didnt notice, but then the only stars i have seen are the 2 or 3 posted here lol
I wish I had a better look at it to know which FRB it was from. It could have been a NY note!!! I guess we will never know
according to uspapermoney.info, Star Notes have only been printed for the boston District so far. It looks like he's updated it through April already.
At the Wall Mart I went through the automated checkout. You know they can't have wrinkled bills in that machine. So I got a new crisp $5 star in change. Came home and put it in a plastic protector. A week or so later I took it out to transfer it to another location. Right before my eyes that bill turned into two consecutive star notes. Yup they were so new and crisp they stuck together; and the machine gave me $10 change when I should have received $5.
Unbelievable you didn't notice the extra thickness right away. Had I noticed at the time, I would have bought alot of things that involved $5 bills in change.
When cashing in brand new $2 bills (after getting a full bundle of 2003 or 2003A), I get frustrated because many counters have trouble getting to 100 notes without sucking two notes through at once. The counters can detect it and will alert the teller to start over. Some tellers have resorted to counting them into stacks of 50 notes due to having to start the count over so frequently.
those counting machines are a waste of time... it does not matter to those machines if the notes are new or old rages or anything in between ... they have alot of trouble counting anything without some error or 2. Even still ... getting a fresh UNC bundle of twos or any denomination... getting one where the notes are still embosed together ... well, i just dont see it very often. Yes, i see notes that are still new and all, but this is different
