1955 "Poor Man's" Doubled Die

    Another VF20 (or so) w/DDD. Research shows the desire to own the real 1955 DDO drove coin dealers to scramble to find something to satisfy their customers, tagging this deteriorated variety as a poor man's copy. This is the second one I've run across in the last 6 years.

    Yep, I remember those ads.

    I got one lot from eBay that included quite a few Wheat cents. I went through them quickly, and realized that there were maybe half a dozen "poor man's double [sic] die" 1955s in the batch. I did set them aside... somewhere.

    Shameful confession: not all my random circulated wheats are in secure facilities. :rolleyes:

    Now keep your eye on my local news for "burglar found crushed under collapsed pile of random electronic equipment" stories.
