Although not a U.S. Coin, it is a direct link to Columbus, the royals who financed his journey to the new world. And despite the annoying controversy with today's world regarding him. He is still one of 2 figures that got me into history in my youth. Wow nice coins all. Love the toning on that @robec. This is one of my favorite US Half Dollars. I am still looking for a nice one to add to my collection though.
A Columbian half dollar leather pouch. Some pieces were sold in items like this. And an Isabella Quarter, which was the first U.S. coin to depect a foreign monarch. And Mrs. Potter Palmer, head of the Board of Lady Managers, who saved 10,000 of these coins from distruction. Her agency tried to sell the Isabella Quarters as a fund raiser. They took their $10,000 stipend from the Federal Government in the form of 40,000 quarters and tried to get $1 apiece for them. I think the price got down to 35 cents before it was over.
EDIT: Wow, that picture is much darker than I remember it. Should see if I can take a better picture now.
The first coin below is a copper 2-maravedis piece from Spain, struck circa 1474-1504 by Ferdinand and and Isabella, who financed Columbus' journey, as you know. The second type you will recognize. Both coins cost me considerably less than twenty bucks, and either one can be yours for free if you enter this month's giveaway and win Prize #1 (the "Pick Bin" option) in the drawing. (Interestingly, the US coin cost more than the 500-year-old Spanish one did. Sometimes that just seems strange to me.)
I'm a font snob, I guess. At least you didn't use Hobo or Jokerman. I salute your taste in coins, if not fonts!
@lordmarcovan That is a nice Columbian Expo Half. It was my #1 pick from your box last month had I won your prize.
I have no idea what it was called. Random font I had on my old machine. Anyhoo... here's an updated picture with the newer setup.
