Lebanon did produce some rather stunning notes :D but I am not sure if Sadam should realy be classed as a old ruin! Recent bones possibly :D

Er well comments were below the links not above them lol...

You could almost tell how the Iraqi economy was doing by tracking the notes... they became much higher in denomination and lower in paper quality the worse things got. (Some of the later notes were made with wood-pulp paper about the quality of heavy newsprint.) They also stopped bothering with many security features except on the higher notes. In 1990 the Iraqi dinar was worth about $3US. In 2002, $1US = 15,000 dinar (shopping was a pain when the higest value note was only 250 dinars... people would usually pay in bundles of them. The 10,000 dinar note wasn't circulated muchand was mainly for bank transfers.)

Brit in Texas wanted to collect on the "guys with mustaches" theme... Iraq produced several notes with Sadaam on them between 1986 and 2002, they'd be a perfect way to get started... no shortage of them on eBay, and still fairly cheap atm.

The notes issued before 1986 were the so called "Swiss Dinars" that were printed in Switzerland, curiously after Kurdistan split off from Iraq in the late 1980's the Swiss Dinars were the only currency that circulated there, the Saddam notes were not accepted at all. That was only changed after Iraq came out with the new series printed by De La Rue when the currency was accepted everywhere in Iraq, including Kurdistan(which considers itself only nominally part of Iraq anyway)

Yep, I'm going to keep my eyes open for a few when I hit up some coin shops this weekend. I don't have a lot of money to devote to paper but I figure if it's only a buck or two and it has a stache then I'm getting it :D

Think the most I ever paid for a Sadaam note is like $5. You could probably get one of each note he's ever been on for around $25 or so, maybe less (even in uncirculated condition).
