Prices for 1877 IHC's seem to have taken a dive lately.......

    How much is the premium over face for a Roman denarius, or a Greek tetradrachm? ;)

    At least there you have a niche market where the buyers may be very HNW individuals. So you may be insulated since kids with Whitman books are not collecting them.

    But yeah...my point remains....if you LIKE the coin, don't be surprised if the price falls 50% or 75% or even 90%. It's not likely to happen but it COULD.

    Hoards can be found (remember the 1903-O in the 1960's ?)....precious metals prices can collapse.....etc.

    I love Saint-Gaudens coins but if they ever find a couple of dozen bags of them for a particular year, KER-PLUNK.

    Imagine what would happen if a bag or two of 1927-D's were found. Now....the people who own the 1927-D's can probably afford the financial hit....but imagine a few bags of Mint State non-common years ? You could see coins lose 50-75% overnight.
