Pretty splendid specimen just showed up in a roll. Think it's safe to say AU-55 (blasted split plate).
Nice find for its age. Someone probably tucked away a few rolls of new coins 30 years ago and now they are getting spent.
Possibly. I wasn't having any luck finding early 90's and 80's Zincolns the entire box (only a few more rolls left in the box). Practically every single one was insane plating blisters, worn, and/or a very nasty stained brown.
Grandpa's small cent collection went back into circulation. You found one of his coins. His State Quarter collection is out in some cash register somewhere. The more people dump these coins back into circulation means your 1989 PCGS graded MS68RD cent just increased in value. By .0001 cent. I don't know how many were minted and I probably could have added a zero. But, the number of coins loss to zinc rot probably puts me pretty close.
I have run across a lot on BU lincolns lately. If they are over 20-25 years old I keep them. Note the 1962 and the 1959 in the pictures. Found them this week in rolls.
Yeah, somebody's dump. I have quite a few found roll hunting myself over the years. I don't roll hunt any more though. Wheaties are so much tougher to find and it seems everybody's pulling everything notable from circulation. Not the fun it used to be. Nice finds.
Thats one of the reasons I stopped with the cents. I average around 5-8 wheats a box and even when looking for errors (and with the Lincolns there are a ton of errors and varieties) they are all nasty dirty. Just like a lot of fellow CRH I do not like the zinc cents. Been thinking about purchasing one of those $500 machines that separate the copper from the zinc as I love the copper cents
I used to find around 50 to 100 per box around ten years ago when I hunted cent boxes. I got tired of only pulling 3 or 4 a box so I quit.
I am sure I will eventually get tired of it like the rest of you, but I am early enough that I am still working on LMCs. I do find wheats though, just odd the lamination one was the best conditioned one I've ever found
Maybe cause the average one found are worth 2 cents. Take a chance throwing back into circulation hopefully inspiring some random person or youngen to start collecting. Every now and then I will carry some common 50s wheats and pay here and there with them just to get a reaction out of a young teller. Keep this wonderful hobby alive!
