Nice strike almost a full hand , but the rub marks on Libertys' leg and eagles' breast and wing , lowers it. Is it the picture , or is there no luster ? IMO AU-50
It doesn't matter if that Walker is BU, AU, MS-70 or G-4! The fact remains that the dealer gave our fellow Coin-Talk friend a nice, beautiful coin. This design, in my opinion, is one of the best designs ever to grace a U.S. coin. The dealer may have sensed that the_man12 could benefit from a free coin perhaps to prod him toward a coin series that he may have known little about (forgive me if I'm wrong about this, the_man12)... I think it was a wonderful thing the dealer did. I would hang on to the coin until I was an old man then give it to some youngster that is just beginning to be interested in coin collecting. Whatever money you'd get from selling it now could never replace the memory you'll have when you look at that coin many, many years from now.
they're scans - i know, my camera's not great so I can't do any better and to CoinOKC, I'm not going to sell it just to let you know. I already knew that when i asked the initial question. I just wanted to know where i could get dealer prices for other coins and share my story about that one in the same thread.
In that case, I'd like to let folks know that I have posted scans of a Walker and had people here give me grades between XF-45 and MS-62, and about a year later posted quality photos of the same coin and had some of the same people give me grades between AU-58 and MS-64.
I long ago discovered that a "grade" is simply someone's opinion (albeit sometimes an informed and expert opinion, but an opinion nevertheless). And you know what they say about opinions... "They're like (fill in the blank), everybody has one..."
Well, sure. I think the only way to know would be if you could get some really good quality pictures. Another option would be to take it with you next time you go to that show and ask people. Most will give you honest opinions. Although I bet there will be a few who would give you a low grade, hoping to buy it from you for way less than its worth.
You know you can sell it or keep it or melt it or do whatever you want with it. Its yours. And anyone disturbed by you inquring about the value of that coin, is full of soup. If someone gave them a coin you can be sure they would want to know its worth. Keep collecting ''The Man'' its a great hobby. My six year old grandson gave me a 1985 P common quarter for my birthday, beacause he knows I collects coins. How much do you think thats worth to me? To a few in this forum, it would be a silly gesture. Some of the folks here forgot about the hobby portion of coin collecting a long time ago. Don't let that happen to you. Good luck.
Thanks, I will keep collecting. I'm glad that there are people that look at it that way (including me).
