I found them through sixbid and they had a couple of pieces I was interested in. Has anyone ever bid with them before? If so, how was the experience? Thanks!
I've done a bit of business with Aureo over the years. My biggest problem with them is the fact that a number of coins i've received in the past contained large enough amount of hairlines to not be gradeable - something that was not obvious from the images, nor was it mentioned in the description. For high value items, i would highly recommend finding-out if any of the US dealers are attending and could preview your lot in-hand.
That's excellent feedback, and I'm not shocked by it. While looking at some coins in spain many were often hairlined and they acted like it wasnt a bid deal. As I dont know any dealers of world coins personally, I think I'll probably hold off on bidding. I really want a nice Segovia 8 reale coin and the pickings are slim here for them.
Good timing, as one of my recent wins just came in. Aureo description: "1802/1789. Carlos IV. Madrid. FA. 8 escudos. 27,02 g. Sin punto después de FELIX ni antes de AUSPICE. Ligeras rayitas en anverso y hojitas en reverso. Rara rectificación de fecha. MBC/MBC+" As in "small streaks or lines on the obverse". The coin I received today is most definitely polished. I have to agree with Roman regarding undisclosed problems. About a third of the items that I won with Aureo & Calicó have been that way, a third were in line with the description or the problems were described and I wanted the coin anyway, and a third graded better than expected. I was not smart enough to get a US dealer to help with a preview -- that's great advice.
