I scanned the unsold lots from Hirsch Nachfolger Ancients auction and noted this beauty. I jumped on it right away.... Macedon AV Quarter Stater ND Amphipolis Mint 12mm. 2.17g. Struck circa 325-20BC in name of Alexander III/ under Philip III/ Antipater. Head of Athena/ wearing Corinthian Helmet adorned with serpent rev. Thunderbolt/ bow/ club Price 165
Thanks!!!! I think the Hirsch Nachfolger auction photo did not give the coin justice, the older Nomos 2012 auction one sealed the deal for me....could not resist the temptation. Now, I am off to work to pay for it! You see way more Staters then fractions in auctions. John
Amazing design and piece! The reverse is especially incredible. I'm pretty inexperienced here and still have yet to buy from a real auction (mostly stick to eBay or LCS) but I'm curious to how this works. Do you just email or message the auction company after the auction and ask for the lot that did not sell? I'm guessing the price is the starting price?
Many auctions will publish a list of unsold lots along with prices after an auction. For those that don't I've usually had good luck just emailing the auctioneer and telling them what I'd like to purchase although sometimes they're not willing to sell them like that (i.e. there was an invisible reserve).
True but in most cases the coins that don’t sell are ones where the reserve is very close or the lower limit of the auctioneer’s estimates. HA normally indicate an offer to buy price which is 10-20% less. I’ve bought an item or two post auction but one seldom gets a nice coin like John’s.
Thanks all for wonderfull comments I have bought over 100+ "unsold" lots/ all were exceptional coins. Auctions can be very strange in how thing sell....
Thanks You can really do well in lawn/garden maintenance. I work solo/ no staff/ no headaches. In Canada, its a seasonal profession (8 months max.) April thru November. This year I had a late start due to long Winter (started Nov. 5th. still had remnants of snow/ice on April 18th! But, I have had a 113 days stretch of OK weather, without missing a day. Another good thing, my job is rather easy basically gives me an aerobic workout/ I walk 260 KM a week. Speed/ quality work/ discipline=awesome $$$$ October is my fav. month to be outdoors/ Autumn colours/ temperate weather/ no insects. Plus in another 6-7 weeks I am off for 4 months to enjoy the snow/ walk my dog/ and catch up on my coins (make data labels/ participate in live auctions!!!! John
