Ok everyone i'm going to a flea market tommorow in the local area and there is suppose to be alot of people with coins there was just wondering if there was anything i should really keep a eye on. I know the basic just anything anyone as had problems with before or any other useful knowledge. Thanks in advice. I'll sign out on the thread before i leave in the morning.
Don't buy any Trade Dollars or Seated Lib Dollars (unless they have been authenticated by one of the top 4 TPGs). They are likely to be Chinese counterfeits. Verify the seller's grading - especially on the higher end material. Don't trust the grades on slabbed coins other than PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG (and don't accept their grading blindly either). Stay away from painted, colored and gold-plated coins. Know some of the key dates and look for them. Good luck.
Anything your not confident on, pass. Keep your eye out for books, always buy books before coins !! Let us know how it went and have fun !! Good Luck !
yeah and if you collect foreign coins you might get some good buys there most dealers that sell american coins really dont know how to price foreign coins and you might get bargains but if you dont know about the coin dont buy it
Two suggestions: 1) In the future, make your thread titles longer/more specific. You might get more helpful replies that way. But, even if you don't, you have at least let others know what the thread was about. 2) At flea-markets, I have yet to see coins that weren't either very common and/or cleaned and/or counterfeit and/or over-priced. Be extremely cautious and don't buy something just to buy it.
