    Hello All.

I have the following $1 scrip from the Central National Bank of Greencastle, Indiana. I have not been able to find any information about this piece in any text available to me or online. I am reaching out to see if anyone has any information regarding this piece and/or what 'emergency' this piece is referring to.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated and any discussion is welcome.

    Thank You.

It is Depression Scrip issued for the Bank Holiday in 1933.

This note is unlisted in the Standard Catalog of Depression Scrip.

Doh! Should've thought about the depression when I was researching this last night. This makes much more sense. Did have to look up what the Bank Holiday was. Didn't know what they were. Learned something new today...Thanks!!

Thank you for all of the information provided. I am not too familiar with depression scrip and their rarity and value in the marketplace today. With a piece like this being unlisted, is there a recommendation of how a person would move forward with a piece like this? I am curious what someone familiar with depression scrip would estimate a value of for this piece. Also, are these pieces accepted to be graded by PMG?

    PMG will grade them.

Pricing Depression Scrip is tough. There are a few hardcore collectors who collect everything but most collect locally. I would expect about $150.00 on Ebay for this piece with or without PMG.

@lettow Thank you for the information on that.

I was looking online and it appears that the "Standard Catalog of Depression Scrip" has not been published since 1984/1985. Does anyone know of a reference for depression scrip that is any more up-to-date than that? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

To me, this is one of the coolest notes as this is just a few miles away from my house. Very cool and great serial!

There is no other catalog of depression scrip. Wendall Wolka published an ebook earlier this year on Indiana obsolete notes and scrip. I dont know if depression scrip is covered.

@CaptainMK Thank you for the comments. I too am from Indiana and less than an hour from that bank.

@lettow Thank you for the information. I'll look into it and see what I can find.

Please note that the above-mentioned note is actually one piece of several similar pieces that I have from the same bank. Would the number of pieces extant greatly affect the price range of these type notes or would a large batch of sequential pieces be more valuable as a lot? Also, does the denomination ($1, $5, $10, $20) affect the value?

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank You.
