I'm currently lusting after these for my Capped Bust Reeded Edge half dollar collection. The 1838-O, I have no chance of owning unless one of you fine folks would like to gift me $450,000 or so. The 1839 Small Letters in this quality is also a bit out of my reach, but maybe one day I could acquire a lesser example...I'll keep trying at least.

Fun fact, this 1839 Small Letters is new to the census and comes in as the 12th known example. It ranks among the top 3 in terms of quality.

For those unaware of the 1839 small letters variety, take a look at the second image. Dick Graham, the author of the standard reference on the Reeded Edge half dollar series, describes the reverse as "smaller and more compact than any eagle on any other variety." The legend is also "smaller and farther from the rim." The easiest characteristic to see by far, however, is the position of the lowest arrow feather in relation to the olive branch: just the tip of the arrow feather is visible below the branch on this reverse, whereas all other reverses show a substantial proportion of the feather's detail below the branch's end. If you happen to discover a 1839 small letters in the wild, I'd love the opportunity to purchase it from you. More are undoubtedly out there!

I posted this picture in another thread.
I was SO EXCITED but found out I should only be a little excited that I found this error. Still a cool find.

To be perfectly honest, I can't remember how I acquired it. It was at a time when I was buying 50+ medals each week just using an eBay search for "medals". I can't even tell you how much I paid for it.

If you want to save my images for it to use as a reference while you search, I wouldn't object.

I'm not sure if that is the original box. Mine doesn't look anything like that. Ask the seller if it has Medallic Art Co. New York printed on the inside of the lid.

I noticed that there are no bids. If the box is not all that important to you, why don't you make him an offer before any bids are placed. I used to do that all the time.
