Here’s why I say that it doesn’t have Full Steps:

I love the coin, but those steps are not complete. There’s a gash through the middle of steps 3 and 4. As the steps approach the right side, two steps merge like this:

I would advise against gambling on the potential upgrade.

I know you think the coin is an MS66, but I promise you the coin has MS67 surfaces. And while more ppl in the poll think the coin is an MS66, my guess is that none of those people have the same level of experience that I have with Jefferson Nickels.

In addition, the only people who have seen the coin in hand, me & NGC both grade the coin MS67. Also, the coin resides in an old fatty slab which means it was graded in the 90s so we can’t blame gradeflation or loosening standards.

Again, I agree with you, the 44-D is decidedly nicer than this coin in every respect, but if a half point isn’t enough for you, then the right thing to do is grade the 44-D an MS68. FWIW, I’ve owned two MS68 war Nickels in my life, and my 44-D is nicer than both of them.

Mike, I’m less concerned about those two areas than I am about the inclusion between the 1st & 2nd pillars. The price differential between 5FS & non full steps almost dictates that I should gamble the $12 for a designation review.
