I finally found my first actual double die penny!
Wexler's 2011 1¢ WDDO-005 and Coppercoins 2011P-1DO-006. All die markers are present (I know that's a given probably, but it was kinda awesome to me to actually see them all there).
The oval shaped 0 in the date initially didn't stick out to me, but the thick I and T in LIBERTY first caught my eye on this one, and the distinctive bottom taper of the I helped me initially narrow it down. The doubled line in the 0 if the date seems to have worn some to where it is only distinguishable on the left side.
Sorry for the crappy pictures, but I already have it in a 2x2.

Yeah, there is DDD on the coin, but that was not what I intended to point out. The crappy quality of my pictures didn't help much there. Thanks for the confirmation, @Rick Stachowski . Also, each of the numerous die cracks and gouges match perfectly to the examples presented on Wexler and Coppercoins...didn't post those to make it a little shorter and save you all from more crappy quality pictures.

Rick, if it takes a microscope to see it and a book review to know it, is it worth enough to make it really worth looking for?

What would be the value on something like this?

Do you think there are ready and willing buyers for DD coins such as these?

    Just curious about this stuff.

A 10x is all that needed, for varieties & errors .
This ddo is worth 7-12 dollars, a piece ...

Nice find! But you found a "doubled" die, not double.

I respect "the hunt" (alot of posts here just throw up crap pics without doing any research like yours...matching to VV, CC and soforth). To see that and then put time into research to identify is cool. I know most are in this for the whale but I cant be because statistics tell me thats not going to happen for me....I dont buy nor search enough or in the right places. I wouldnt have noticed that 0 in the date. Having said that, this hunt is kind of like taking out your Mouser 12 guage and buying a 4 day excursion to the outback....and coming back with a chipmunk lol! I joke because that find is better than all mine lately!

Haha! Yeah, I hear that. I am sure one day I'll find something worth getting, and most of my searching is for silver coins and such. Right now, I am trying to train my eye to spot actual errors over the crap stuff. It took a little while, but I'm only a few months in and saw this, so I guess I'm starting to get it. This is my second DDO this month (apart from the immense number of America the Beautiful Quarter varieties out there that I am almost tired of finding), so I figure worst case scenario, it's another time-wasting hobby I get into that entertains me for a while and I learn some neat new stuff. At least my wife is ok with coin searching since I'm not really spending money on it! :)
