Just a quick question. I found my first error coin ever, it is a 2000-P Dime with a MAD Obverse. The only reason I caught it was because the last 0 in the date is almost completely gone. I WISH I had a scope to take a picture of it. Anyway, I am 100% positive that is what this is. I am by no means any good at grading, but it looks pretty good to me. Most of the lines in Roosevelt's hair is visible, all of the rest of the lettering looks good, except the last 0. My question, would this be worth my time getting graded? From what I have read online if the misalignment causes any of the devices to be missing it is worth more. That last zero is almost non-existent. Thoughts?
You don't need a scope to take a picture of a misaligned die strike. It doesn't need magnification. No not at all. It's considered a very minor and common mint error. By the way. You can send any coin to have graded. Grading only has to do with the condition of the surfaces. If You have an error or a variety then you would send it to get attributed. That is a separate service done by the graders That has a separate fee. Misaligned Die strikes are not worth it.
I just wanted to show you guys what I was talking about. I can not for the life of me get my phone to take a good pic of it.
Don't get to Close to it. Take a picture then crop it. If you can't then post it anyway. I can try to fix it.
Take a picture then crop it. Duh, why didn't I think of that! Thanks, Paddyman! Here it is. The reverse looks fine.
Yes.. Normal misaligned strike.. I have dozens of raw examples. What does the edge look like. Is it reeded?
Ok. If it wasn't reeded then it would been a different type of mint error called Broadstruck out of collar which looks similiar to yours.
Yes, your MAD error dime has no premium, imo. A broadstruck dime, depending on how large in diameter it is, is worth $2 to $10 or thereabouts.
Hey, you found something and recognized the error type. Lots of minor errors like small chips, filled dies, and die breaks don't carry any premium, but they are still fun to find
