Noticed the website Banknote Bank in many people's post and signatures, and decided to join up and start posting my paper money collection there! Maybe I'll do coins too eventually, but that will take more work, since I have to actually take pictures... my banknotes I can just drop straight on the scanner (well technically I can do that with coins too, but my experience has shown that doesn't yield very clear pictures and tends to make the color all weird... but it's perfect for paper money). Anyway will be working in my spare time to start scanning and uploading my banknotes... only have 3 there so far, notes I happened to already have scanned lol... but eventually hope to have my whole collection there.

Not only is this a conveneint way to catalog my collection for my own reference, it's also a far more convenient way to share pictures of my collection with all of you or anyone else online. Far more convenient than when I had to use an image hosting service.

I put a link for my collection in my signature if anyone wants to check it out from time to time. I'll post here when I have signifcant additions I want to call to your attention (besides just initially getting the collection up lol...)

Scanning as fast as I can lol... got 31 done so far... will scan some more after work. Hoping to get them all done, eventually, but still have quite a few to go!

That Lao note is HUGE btw... takes up half a page in my album! Had to go get a special page to hold it.

OK it's official... all my notes, all 94 of them, are finally up! Woo-hoo! That was a lot of scanning lol... now I just need to add more notes as I get them.

Check it out! So far the 2 major categories are US $2 bills and WW2 era Japanese notes. Also a handful of notes in the "Dragon Collection" (plan to designate them as such in the descriptions lol).

P.S. Decided to reassign the Japanese occupation notes to the occupied territories (whatever they're currently recognized as) for sake of consistency; notes issued by colonial powers are still listed in the colonized country, and although Japan rules these areas temporarily, they were still "local" currencies, abeit for a realtively short time (and basically became worthless when the Japanese were kicked out lol...). History is what it is, I'm not going to try to impose any judgements on it by insisting these notes are purely "Japanese" and not the notes of the occupied areas.

Euro notes I decided to just assign to whatever country happened to print them (you can tell from the first letter in the serial, which corresponds to the country which issued it) despite the fact they're accepted as legal tender anywhere that accepts Euros. I treat Euro coins the same way (though they're more obvious where they're issued lol... as each country uses unique obverses for their Euro coins.)

Last personal policy I came up with is to keep dating to whatever is on the note, even if that doesn't actually correspond with the actual year issued (often the case with US notes) for sake of simplicity, as often the actual year of issue is difficult or impossible to determine. In the case of undated notes or notes where the date is difficult to determine, I try to make a reasonable estimation, usually researching the note design to get a ballpark figure or use what I know about when the note was acquired to give a reasonable estimation of its date.

Anywho-- take a look! Will hopefully be added more to it from time to time... will call attention to any new additions here with new threads.

    Very nice Collection!! :eek:hya:
Is it me or do others feel that if they were a paper note collector from another planet landed on our good earth, that they would yawn an pass over the current offerings of the US government when compared to some of the amazing looking notes from other countries?

Sad thing is there's more variety with US money the further back you go... seems to be the reverse for the rest of the world! Really love the colorful re-designs they've done on the $5, $10, $20, and $50... but I'm with you and wish they'd throw in more variety, more often. It would be nice if they were bold and issued an entirely new design, instead of just modifying the current ones. (And the $1 bill, essentially unchanged since 1963, and the $2 bill, essentially unchanged since 1976, are both long overdue for redesigns!)

To be fair if you pick any one country's notes and stick with them exclusively, it wouldn't take long to get bored of them, no matter how much variety they have. After a while everything starts to look the same. That's why I like collecting notes from several different countries... there's no hope of ever getting them all lol so never run out of stuff to collect.

However since every note on this planet would be a novelty to your hypothetical alien note collector I'd think he'd be glad to add some of our notes to his collection too lol... to him nothing would be ordinary, after all.

I kind of semi-joked about starting a note collection of men with mustaches, looking through your collection all of the stachioed men kept leaping out at me. I'm seriously considering starting that collection now! You have some really nice notes in there. Thanks a lot for sharing :)
