It is a 100+ year old gold coin with definite numismatic value and significant spreads between grades, what is your hesitation?
I almost always respond no to these questions. In this case, I believe you would be doing yourself and the coin a favor having this one slabbed.
Yeah I'll do some research on it, cause my grandfather gave me two of these a 10$ liberty head 5 dollar buffalo and a gaudens.
I'm with Larry. I'd only get it graded if I planned to sell. I'm particularly of the mind that if you want it graded, buy it graded
In the meantime I would sure get that one into a capsule or something to avoid any potential damage. She sure does present well.
Isn’t 1907 the only year this was minted without a motto? It sure does make for a very clean looking coin.
Though nothing looks off about the coin at all, grading would also help authenticate it. Most gold coins get counterfeited in droves. Though I really don't think that it is counterfeit (it would have to be a really good one).
I would have more precaution but when I was given these coins they were in very old paper. Which I believed were paychecks that my great grandfather received because it had old dates from I'm guessing he was paid.
Keep it safe. Get it graded to 1) protect, and 2) or the future. People love paying extra for a slabbed coin
I'm not from the slabbed crowd. That said, I'm on the fence with this one. If you decided to send it in that's cool. If not, as long as you protected it in an airtite that would be cool too. Either way, very nice piece.
Yes, 1907 and also some 1908 Indian head Eagles don’t have the motto. And of course I’d submit it, it’s a classic US gold coin. I would want to make sure it’s authentic.
