I didn't know those dates and mints were worth so much...... The 1943 copper penny is a 1948 that has been manipulated to look like a 3. It's also been damaged to hide that fact. Greed will make some people do some seriously wrong things.
First thing I thought too when i looked at em. If they are his he got big cojones trying to advertise em on a coin collectors website.
If only one single idiot pays for one of those coins, he pretty much has made 10x on his efforts. A few quotes: “There’s a sucker born every minute.” and this one seems relevant “No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.” Seems unethical to say the least, but sometimes I wonder: if a dealer makes 2x on a coin, no one cares, but if they make 100x on a coin, suddenly it's a scam. I guess I don't know where to draw the line.
Boy, if they can get that money for those coins, I got a lot better looking ones than that. Maybe they will sell my plain old common dates for ridiculous prices and I'll split it with them. LOL
It is people like this that are ruining a good hobby. I really do not know how they can lay their heads down at night and sleep.
Well that gave me a flashback from this morning. I went to my local flea market and there was one guy selling coins. He had a common date 1921 Philadelphia mint, Morgan silver dollar in fine condition at best for $45. A '21 Morgan in fine condition is in my book junk silver valued around $18 tops right now. He also had a 1916 Mercury dime, very good and that was $7.50. The cheapest Buffalo Nickel he had was three dollars and that was for a no date. I watched for a bit, lots of lookers but no buyers. I wonder why! Lol For that matter, I could pull out a lot of my coins, go up there and under cut him. I'd still be way over priced but the next day I could go to my LCS and buy it back to have stock for the next weekend. It's sad and I just don't understand people at times these.
Hey, you guys should see the deal I just got on some etsy coins, including a 1940-something cent, I mean penny. And they gave me a deal on combined shipping...er, ohhhhhh...never mind.
Of course not. I just thought it would be humorous to see what someone is trying to get away with. At least I assume they're serious. It seems like a lot of trouble to go through to list all that junk and actually expect responses. BTW, I didn't mean to include the US Mint link, although some of the stuff they're selling now isn't much better than the junk in the other links.
These ads are why we get so many with damaged or altered coins here, as someone sees the crap on ads like the one presented and think people actually buy those for the prices listed. Sellers like those are ones newbies think are real and when we say they are damaged, they think we are trying to steal their "future". Some complain about eBay, but compared to these sellers and site, its 1000X better and more trust worthy. But you can't treat desperation and people who say "LALALALA" with fingers in ears when presented with it. I feel the same way with "Natural cures" for diseases that are death producing and the producers of such crap take the ill (and usually very poor) people's money and send it to Offshore storage. Both types of sellers know what they really are. Rotten to the core. IMO, Jim
