Hello, I see where the mint is selling the California and the Golden Dollar coins but I have yet to see any at the banks or in change received. Do they have different dates as to when they are available? And if so do you know when? Thanks!
They've been minting Sackies solely for the collector market for several years. I think the only ones that were actually released into circulation through the normal channels were the 2000s and a small amount of 2001s. They only recently had the release ceremony for the California quarters, so those should be popping up in circulation rather quickly. The nickel release ceremony is in early March. I don't know anything about the dimes. Half dollars are like Sackies. Solely for the collectors. I believe a handful of 2005 cents have turned up already.
KLJ has pretty muched summed up the situation at this time. If you want halves or Sackies you will have to buy from the Mint or contact a dealer. None will go into circulation!
Thank you for the information. I think the nickels do go on sale from the mint on the 28th. Here in DC they are having a big Nickel exchange on the First of March.
Purchased my 2005 Kennedy halves and 2005 Sacagawea dollars this morning at my local coin shop. My albums are now updated and I can wait patiently for the proofs to make an appearance. The buffalo nickel is released at the Mint on the 28th so you should be able to order at noon?
I have yet to find a california myself, I do not think it is out. I believe it is every ten weeks(for that quarters), that one is released. Then, it takes a little bit to circulate.
The CA are out...I got mine Tuesday.... You are right that it is every 10 weeks but it only takes about 1-2 weeks before I get them... Speedy
