From the ww2 or older era small thick double sided tokens with pictures and French words in reverse surrounding the image. Made of brass. Trans lates to French proverbs like I hurt to heal has a picture of a pocket knife
They are french proverbs there is one that depicts a picket knife and translates i hurt to heal. “ Je blessé à guérir”
Truly fascinating pieces. Because of the intaglio reversed and incuse inscriptions, I would guess they were wax seals, maybe? The themes (hearts, letters, etc) kind of make me think these would have been used to seal correspondence. But that is only a guess. I do think they are considerably older than WW2. They have a distinctly 19th century style, and while I am not familiar with what exactly they are, I do have some familiarity with 19th century buttons, and those definitely look to be 1800s vintage. Or flip 'em in the MS Paint program.
Yep, 19th Century French wax seals. The tube that holds them is also the handle by putting the seals inside with the one you wish to use exposed to the open end. https://metalcorset.blogspot.com/2014/06/antique-french-wax-seal-etui.html
Whatever someone will pay for it. That's not a flip answer. Esoteric material like this usually has its price set by auction, and probably doesn't come up for sale all that often. Your best bet is to find some closed auctions for reference. Perhaps find out what that example @Mountain Man linked to sold for. If I were to venture another guess, I'd say low three figures at a minimum.
