The coin is 18 grams heavy thick copper 29 mm diameter.

I have the standard catalog 1801-1900 4th ed. but can't find it there.

Maybe it's from Gwalior ? Since there are no portrait or picture - maybe an Islamic princedom ?

Can you experts identify it ? tks.

Definately princely states. Probably is 20th century then. If I remember correctly, hammered coins were stuck into the 1940s in some places

Indeed you do have a good memory. Krause shows dozens of princely states issuing coins in the 20th Century, with more than one continuing into the '40s, and maybe even later.

This one is not pictured in Gwalior, although at first glance it resembles KM#164, a copper 1/2 pice from 1901.

I couldn't find a match, Pilot, and I suppose you don't have a local public library with a current time period Krause; but if you can find one, a comparison to the pictures with the coin in hand might be productive.

You might also try sending pictures to nupam@med.unc.edu, an expert on Indian coinage who helped me identify some ancient Indian coins a couple of years ago. This webpage has a lot of interesting material.

Have you tried looking under Bundi? If the Indian Princely State was an Islamic one, then it would be inscribed in Arabic (or Persian) & have an AH date.
This coin is inscribed in Hindi,& it has a VS date which is 57 years greater than an AD date.

    Identity of the Coin

    Pilot,
The coin in question is not from India but Nepal (A neighboring country) and it has the following inscription on it.... " Shri Tribhuvan Vikram Shahdev" (Obverse) and "Nepal" (Front). It is a fairly common copper coin struck in large quantities and not worth very much as there are quite a lot of such coins in circulation.
I am a coin collector from India and in case you have any queries about coins from the Indian subcontinent I would gladly answer them.
