Just caught my eye. Does anyone have an idea of the nature of the "beaded" belt Maximinus I wears on this coin? Maximinus I. 235-238 AD. AR Denarius (21mm; 2.66 gm; 6h). Rome mint. Obv: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev: Emperor standing left, raising right hand and holding spear in left, between two standards RIC 3; RSC 55. VF+.
If you do an image search for "pteruges" (the leather strips the skirt is made of) you'll find that they're often studded with discs, sometimes just at the top. Maybe that's what's represented here? Neat detail!
I found this interesting article on all kinds of Roman military armor/clothing... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Roman_military_clothing
