Among all of my Anonymous Byzantine coins, this one happened to be the best in matter of condition. I like it so much and I remember that the first time I acquired one of them, I called them "sacred coins". Now as far as Numismatics, the following coin is really appealing as being clear and with sandy patina. It weighs 12.7 g. Hope you like it.

I am a US collector that went to a coin show early last year. I saw my first Anonymous Follis with an absolutely spectacular bust of Christ. You good folks here in the ancients forum showed me the translation on the reverse, Christ King of Kings" and the hook was set. I have since purchased five more.

That's how they get you... ;) They definitely have hooked me too. I really like these Byzantine Follis coins. Unfortunately I only have 1 nice one and one that is barely recognizable. Beautiful coins though, great design and they have a nice heft to them :)

Thank you. Surely it reads: Jesus Christ King of Kings. These anonymous issues were struck in the second half of the tenth century, nearly 950-1000 AD. That's the time when the Byzantine Armies recaptured Antioch and the vast Eastern territories which had been previously conquered by the Arabs in the 7th century.

7Calbrey, Nice score ;). The sandy patina accentuates the details on the coin. Last year I scored a nice example of the same coin type, however, my example has a solid dark patina.

Folks have been generous to me on this forum and I am a believer in passing that along whenever I can. And besides, you probably need something new to look at during the midnight bottle feedings.

Nice Byzantine, @7Calbrey ! I agree, the Obverse really shows off the image.

I really do not focus in Byzantium coins, so my selection is very limited. I fact, I ONLY have 2 coins depicting the Christ. So, I reckon, they could be labled as MY best. :)

@Alegandron I like that Trachy. How thick? deep? not sure what to call it, is it? I've only ever seen these shot from straight down and I've always been curious.

I don't have it with me at this time. However, as I recall, perhaps 10mm. Reminds me of a small soup bowl. I tried, but the spoon was way to big. :D

How would a person find a follis this pristine? I can’t stop looking at yours.
