Hi all you nice people here on CT.:)

My main complaints about coin collecting have been my dealings with the only coin dealer within my driving range.

Last week I took two pages of my Lincoln Wheat cent collection to shop for some to fill in the empty spots. When I asked the co-owner/owner (?) of the store to check one of the wheats to see if he confirmed my suspicion that the coin had been cleaned, he said yes. Then after he checked the remainder of the cents he said, 'you've got some nice coins there'....

Victory is sweet, so sweet... even if fleeting...

Yes, Arizona, dealer approved. Oh Wait! You already approved of some of my Lincolns!

Like I said, victory is fleeting...

While I was searching this dealer's inventory book so I could choose some coins to peruse I mentioned something about getting those very difficult cents...

The dealer immediately said, 'you probably can't afford them', which was followed very quickly by the senior dealer by, 'wait, you don't know what size of hovel she lives in'.
To which I said, 'yep, it is a rather large hovel, probably bigger than his'.

Can you believe this? If it wasn't for the fact that the senior dealer's son and the other two employees (likely family members, too)... weren't so patient and nice, I would go elsewhere... if there was somewhere to go. Any wonder why I use online shops for coin colllecting?

Oh well, roll with the punches and come up wiser and fighting.

That's no way to treat anyone, customer or not.

My wife and I attended the Early American Coppers convention in Dallas last weekend. AMAZING. I was blown away.

It was only her second coin show of any kind. She didn't pretend to be an expert. However, she was genuinely interested in the goings-on.

She has nothing but praise for the first-class treatment she received from everyone she talked to.

What a great way to drive potential customers away!

Many years ago I owned a Bentley, and belonged to the Bentley Drivers Club. One of the members could have bought and sold the company I worked for out of his petty cash drawer, but I never saw him wearing anything but jeans and sweatshirts. I think he shaved once a week, whether he needed to or not!

    Hontonai,
Isn't it odd when the most unassuming presence is usually the one who can have anything they want.
It is better when the ultra bucks can meet you eye to eye about a hobby you both love and can enjoy, even if on different levels of wallet size.

Yes, he did have a slip of his self-importance stance right then and there. After this I really doubt I will buy anything directly from him again. There are other employees in the store and they are always more pleasant to deal with. Besides there are very nice dealers and sellers on this forum that are actually a pleasure to buy from.

Thank you very much for your concern. Your tag line really tells it like it should be:
"Ethical conduct is being honest even when no one is watching".
If people could adhere to such ethics as being honest, compassionate and understanding of each other and their status, then I think our world would be a much better place to live.

    That's okay Bonedigger,
I can be a great deal more patient than he even on my worse day.
Someday he will get his reward, and you can bet it won't be from me.

I use to sell Autographs and film memrobilia and attended shows regular, one of our fav customers was a Lady who you woudnt have thought had two cents to rub together but man she was nice, use to bring us home made fruit pies n cakes :D, my boss went balistic at a dealer who knowing her love for James Bond sold her a forged auto and thought it was funny. This lady use to spend hundreds of pounds regular!! We found her the genuine article and presented it to her at the next show :) You should never judge someone by what they look like or there gender. Another old lady of my aquaintence is a German stamp collector and what she dont know about them isnt worth knowing but to look at she is just another old Lady LOL
