    Stripped of it's copper plating. You can see a few places on the obverse where it wasn't completely stripped away.

    I was looking at those spots as well,I think it may be rust..I can't say for sure..it very well could be stripped too...idk.

    It's not rust. It's remnants of the copper plating. But hey, what do I know?

    Looks like the copper plating has a tarnish from environment on top of it. plain zinc would have been eaten up more than that. I dunno
