Most all of what you said is very likely based on my many years of experience. Plus, it is a desire to be part of the group and to participate. I have not seen any real bargains at club meetings.

The deals seem to be few and far between.
I've made a nickel here and there buying lots of coins (keeping what I want and selling the rest at the meeting)
All low dollar coins so that helps.

Yes probably selling off duplicates and or extra coins that come with buying coins in bulk.

Last meeting I bought 12 unc bank rolls of cents 1959/64.
Next meeting I've got some graded MS69/70 presidential dollars to unload and some red seal $2 bills.

Comes from knowing the club. If it's a bunch of retired collectors living on Social Security, there's not a lot of spare cash to buy stuff with and inexpensive and unusual lots sell best.

If the club has a couple of active dealers, there's at least a floor pricing scheme - the guy will bid $5 on everything figuring he can resell it or melt it.

But there aren't a lot of club members going to pay $200 for anything - I'll bet there aren't 3 of 60 in the room with that much in their pocket.

Thing is they do seem to use the meetings to dump their least desirable coins. I also found that they collude with each other and fawn over new members. Couple that with the guy in the front row for auctions buying anything and everything silver and cheap then well, it makes for a lousy experience. Additionally, little 'mini sales' go on between other members as they whisper to each other, show and tell and sell while the auction is going on even though they're all told not to do so. Like I say, pretty crummy experience. I tried for several consecutive meetings to give it a chance. Waste.

    ABSOLUTELY!!
If I end up moving to Texas, I will have to see what I can do out there.
