BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a woman stole $6,000 worth of quarters and her getaway car was a baby stroller. Bakersfield police officers noticed the woman Friday struggling to push the stroller but quickly realized there was no baby inside, according to the Bakersfield Californian. Police discovered the quarters, which 29-year-old Darrin Fritz is alleged to have stolen from a home, the newspaper reported. Fritz allegedly tried to flee from the officers. Gotta wonder why somebody would have $6000 worth of quarters in the first place. I wonder if they were mint bags of San Antonio Quarters.
Someone commented in the local news story that they would weigh approx. 300 pounds. Wouldn't this have been 600 rolls of quarters? I know I can't even lift the box if I fill all 50 slots with cent rolls--I can't imagine what 600 rolls would weigh.
Yea... learnt that quickly the very first time I bought a box of quarters. Had no idea such a small box could weigh that much.
I am moving across California soon. I had over 297 rolls of quarters that I can't take with me on the move. I have been depositing them 20 rolls at a time in eight different branches of my bank. (Don't want to overload them.) I am down to 45 rolls left and just now able to lift the bag off the closet floor. That must of been one large baby stroller. It would have taken some time to load that much.
I have jars of $100 in quarters in my garage from metal detecting. And if you multiply 400x 5.67g and divide by 453.592 (grams in a pound) it comes out to 5 even. (some tiny fractions left but like thousandths of a gram).
