Why the US Postal Service wont send coins to India other than it being illegal according to their manual and maybe US Customs. I inquired today about sending some State quarters and they told me no US currency or coin (s) can be sent there. No electronic stuff, computers, gold, jewels etc etc. But you can send art geeez....

You want to see something really weird, check the postal restrictions on sending stuff to Italy. No clocks?? No artificial flowers??? It goes on. I suspect it is the destination government that imposes the restrictions. Each country has different concerns. It might be interesting to compile a list of odd mailing restrictions to different countries.

I sent coins to India twice in the last year and received coins in return. I just stated hobby supplies or numismatic supplies on the customs label and mailed them. No questions either time! I did not attempt to insure either package so that might have made a difference?

Postal regs, when they refer to coins, are referring to money. For it is illegal to ship money, currency from country to another. These regulations do not apply to numismatic items - coins or currency with collector value.

All you have to do is label, list the items in your shipment properly and you will have no problem. List them as collectibles or numismatic items and they won't even bat an eye ;)

I would not suggest listing coins or currency as supplies though as they are rather obviously not supplies. And if the package were to be examined you could possibly be found guilty of mail fraud or violating postal regs.
